Every journey begins with a small moment.
For us, it started with Kuih Cara—made simply for family and friends. Seeing how much they enjoyed our homemade treats sparked an idea: perhaps our passion for baking could become something more.
That small spark led to the birth of Brown & Sugar in 2016. Our very first product was our Fruit Tarts, which quickly became a customer favourite and marked the beginning of our journey in creating handcrafted desserts.
As the years went by, we continued to push our creativity further. We introduced acrylic painting cakes, helping to make them a trend in Malaysia, and became known for our signature handpainted cakes and artisanal pralines. We have always believed that every cake should be more than just dessert—it should be a work of art that becomes part of someone's most cherished memories.
What started as a dream between Hariz & Syai, a husband-and-wife team with a shared passion for baking, has grown from just two people into a company that has employed more than 100 talented individuals throughout the past decade.
Syai transformed her love for baking and artistry into the heart of Brown & Sugar’s creations, while Hariz built the foundation behind the business, managing its growth and operations. Together, their different strengths, dedication, and shared vision shaped Brown & Sugar into the brand it is today.
Every baker, cake artist, decorator, customer service representative, delivery rider, and team member who has been part of Brown & Sugar has contributed to our story. This milestone is not just a celebration of our founders, but of everyone who has helped build Brown & Sugar into what it is today.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of creating cakes and desserts for countless weddings, birthdays, and milestone celebrations. We’ve also had the honour of collaborating with renowned brands, corporate partners, public figures, and prestigious events across Malaysia. Every collaboration and opportunity has inspired us to continue raising the bar in craftsmanship, creativity, and quality.
Beyond creating cakes and desserts, we are also honoured to have become a platform for learning and creativity. Throughout the years, we have hosted workshops featuring international bakers and cake artists, while also conducting our own cake decorating classes to share our knowledge and passion with others.
Seeing students travel from different parts of the world to attend our workshops has been a truly humbling experience. It reminds us that our journey is not only about creating beautiful cakes, but also about inspiring, teaching, and connecting with a community that shares the same love for the art of baking.
Looking back at the past 10 years, our journey has been filled with challenges, growth, lessons, and countless beautiful memories. From a small passion project shared between two people to becoming a team that creates thousands of meaningful celebrations, every step has shaped who we are today.
As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we look back with gratitude and forward with excitement. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our customers, partners, friends, family, and everyone who has believed in our journey.
